PARK CITY, Utah – On Thursday morning, the Park City Fire District responded to a fire at the Whole Foods Market in Kimball Junction after an entrance heater ignited. Cashiers at the front of the store noticed smoke, prompting the store manager to swiftly extinguish the flames using a nearby fire extinguisher.
Fire District Marshal Mike Owens commended the prompt action, stating, “The quick response made all the difference.” The store was evacuated as a precaution, and no injuries were reported. The fire was confined to the entrance heater. By 11:20 a.m., Whole Foods had reopened, with fire personnel concluding their on-site operations.
Utah has experienced several wildfire incidents in recent times. Six months ago, multiple fires burned approximately 599 acres within a 24-hour period. To date in 2025, over 1,100 fires have been reported, consuming more than 54,000 acres of land. Additionally, the Dead Cow Point Fire in Tooele County was successfully contained at nearly 26 acres, thanks to the rapid response of firefighters. Another wildfire near the Rowley restricted area spread across an estimated 20 acres, with containment expected shortly thereafter.
